RAYNET

THE RADIO AMATEURS' EMERGENCY NETWORK

West Yorkshire RAYNET

RAYNET is a national organisation of Radio Amateurs who provide communications when systems used by the Emergency Services and other approved 'user services' overload or fail.

We operate at The Three Peaks Fell Race to provide radio communications from the Event Control to the checkpoints, including the summits of Penyghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, as well as safety points on the fellsides. We will update the organisers on the progress of the race and alert them to any potential problems.

There will be more than 20 operators from up to eight different RAYNET groups assisting on the Three Peaks Race. They come from various parts of the country ranging from Devon to Scotland.

You may not see our radio operators as we work mainly behind the scenes. What you will see are our aerials and masts at the checkpoints.

We use this event as a pre-planned training exercise in preparation for emergency callouts to assist the user services, who include police, fire and ambulance.

If you are interested in RAYNET then please go to the various sites below to read about our local and national activities.

If you happen to see any RAYNET operators around the course, please say "hello" or "thank you" as you pass It will be appreciated..

Have a good run and keep safe.

Kind regards.
